Plain English: how we make money, and why it doesn't change what we recommend.
What affiliate links are
When we link to a product, some of those links are "affiliate links." If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise, the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.
Programs we participate in
DuctlessWise is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We also participate in affiliate programs with other retailers and brands relevant to this site's topic. Where that's the case, the same rules apply.
How it affects our recommendations
It doesn't. Our picks come from comparing products on the criteria that decide whether a heat pump or water heater works in a real home: rated capacity and efficiency (SEER2, HSPF2, UEF), the low-temperature limit, voltage, line-set length, warranty terms for self-installation, and price. We do not run lab tests, and we never say we did; the numbers come from manufacturer spec sheets and public listings such as ENERGY STAR, each with the date we checked it. If the best option in a category has no affiliate program, we still recommend it. If a product we earn on turns out to be a poor choice, we say so.
Prices and availability
Prices, specifications, and availability change frequently and are set by the retailer, not by us. Every price on this site carries the month and year we saw it; always confirm the current price, model number, and specs on the retailer's page before buying.
